I drove my 99 SLT Club Cab to Hardees tonight. Which is only two blocks from my house and when I got too the order screen my electric window would not roll down. It is very cold here but it hasn't rained or snowed. It tried to roll down but it seemed froze shut. Is there anything I can do to avoid this problem? I also have to mention that I have to park outside as I don't have a garage and my truck is out in the open. Any useful help would be appreciated! Thank You.

Sounds like the window regulator is siezed. Try smacking the lower right section of the door panel just above the map pocket area with your hand. Hit it a time or two but not too hard. Then operate the window switch. If that doesn't work, remove the door panel and moisture barrier and tap on the window motor with a hammer and see if it works then. If the window works after either of these tests, you have a bad regulator.

I have heard of others having the regulators freeze up in really cold weather then the next time you operate the window, the plastic gears in the regulator assembly will shatter and the window gets stuck. That never happens here in Florida where I live though. You will know if that's what happened to your truck because there will be pieces of the gears in the bottom of the door cavity and the cable will either be really loose or snapped in two.

It's about $80 to $100 from Dodge for a new window regulator and motor assembly, maybe half that from a junk yard. It's not hard to replace, either. You can do it yourself with just a few common hand tools. Regulator failure is a pretty common problem on Dodges, Chryslers and Jeeps.

Thanks Jimmy9190. It rolled down fine the newt day! But I will keep on the lookout for the problem you described.
