Starting to lose oil pressure and hear a knock lower end. Stills idles smooth and runs good but I think it's time to do some work.

Any Suggestions as to what to check before I start?

Sounds like you may have a rod bearing going bad, one thing you might do to confirm it is a bearing is change the oil to a heavy oil, like 20W50 and see if that quiets it down if so then my guess would be bearings wore out.
With 170K I would suggest either a rebuilt long block, or do a complete rebuild on what you have. Most likely, you will need to have the crankshaft reground, and the rod's resized at least that's what I had done to mine when I rebuilt it. I also had it bored, honed, a complete valve job, mill the block and heads and replaced everything that wasn't rebuilt, reground, or other wise able to be reused.

Good Luck
