ive been wanting to regear to 3.92 and the local junkyard actually only has the 9.25" posi 3.92 rear. but would it be easier and cheaper to just regear the diff since that is what broke(rear pinion seal leak, wont hold fluid, whines like hell at any speed over 40)? also do the rams have all the same bs problems as the dakotas? if i go thru ANOTHER rear, im done with the dak.

i get into it sometimes but even if i drove it WOT all the time the rear wouldnt go AGAIN in 13000 miles. i was on aatco pit crews and we wouldnt go thru rears like that. also makes you wonder y chrysler sorry cerberus has that lifetime powertrain warranty.. look at the archives or on dakotausa theres so many 3.9 guys bithin about their rears and trannys and FU%&*$g ball joints. i just had a customer in the shop with an r/t that said he went thru 2 trannys in 2 years! i love my truck but its like bad pus*y, i shell out a di**load of money for nothing but more problems. we will see.. if the 9.25" rear goes, im drivin it off a cliff off with me in it.

Make sure you use a high quality gear lube, I prefer Redline, but Amsoil or Royal Purple should do fine. Mobil one is inferior to the above brands IMO and experience.
I smoked pump bearings in my jetski using Mobil one - 2 pumps. Using Redline never had a failure. On my dak the pinion seal had leaked and I towed a car from MI to PA low on fluid, no damage due to the rear, used Redline.

myself and family have raced for years!
best gear oil we have ever found by far
