Subject: truck won't start
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota V6, won't start. I was driving the truck and it started cutting back and then cut off. It will turn over now but I can't get it to start. It has spark and gas but won't start. Can someone help?

the first thing to do is check for codes. tunr the key on/off/on/off/on and the odometer will display the codes then post back what you've got.

For ( 01 ) you need a scanner to get the codes.
Are you sure it is getting gas ?
Have you charged up the battery to full power ?

?, i find it hard to believe you need a scanner to read codes on an '01 when the key trick works on '00 and '02's i know for a fact.

DJ, did you even get a display in the odometer of Pdone? if not you did something wrong.

on/off/on/off/on within 15 seconds. "ON" does NOT mean "START".

Started cutting back? As in how? Almost sounds like fuel pump. granted you get fuel to the rail, but not enough.

Fuel Pressure at the rail should be 47.2 to 51.2, find someone with a gauge or try a cheap one at your local parts house.

Check this if you have spark and fuel

Pull the fuel pump relay and check the timing
it should be at 10 degree's before TDC if thats
ok I would suspect the injector sync

crank it over and than pull a plug and see if
its wet or dry

Also if your coil is bad it may spark when you
test but when the plug is under pressure it may
not spark

#1 drivers side front I usualy use some of the
liquid paper the stuff you use if you what to
white out a miss type comes with a nice little
brush mark the line on the damper makes it real
easy to see or just use white spray paint, spry
on a pice of paper than just use a little brush

You may have a stuck injector

unplug the fuel pump relay get a set of $0.99ea
plugs from walmart drop them in and see if it
starts

if not put the relay back in and try it again
if it starts runs and fluds out
could be injector or a short in the driver wires
for the injectors

posible computer but not very common

Have you ever trued holding it to the floor to start

These systems alow you to do that just like an
old flooded out carbed motor

If you replaced the pickup that is for the injectors

do some of these simple test to see why its flooding out
