 Subject: T-stat in terrible place??

I put in a 180 T-stat friday and it was terrible! Is there a secret or something? I had to take the A/C off and use two different extensions to get to the back bolt. And I have a braided sleeve kit and although I took care of the radiator hose I was a bit timid with the heater hoses due to the lack of access to the upper heating hose and I was afraid to remove them at the firewall and terring some part of my heater core out and having to spend my non-existant money to get that replaced. Any assistance with removing my heater hoses, vacuum lines and fuel lines would be much appreciated.
