Well, I've got a 96 dakota 3.9l five speed. Get in to crank it up and it doesn't make as much noise when it starts up. Hmm, this is strange. Gets up to temp, go to wind her out to around 3500, above mid throttle it sounds like an air hose pushing air out at a high pressure and very little exhaust note (cat back exhaust). It won't go over 3k rpms even with my foot on the floor. It has lost all power, it still runs fine, all the temp gauges and oil pressure are the same as before. Any ideas? Poor college student so I can't afford much.

Start by checking for codes,Don't know how just ask.
And,
Seeing how its a 96 I would also get a fuel pressure gauge and test it at the Schrader valve.
