The fuel sync can be adjusted other ways. How i set mine was i went out bought a degree wheel and piston stop from a performance parts store.
Remove the spark plugs put in the piston stop on the number 1 piston turn the motor over by hand till it is against the stop. Now write down the degree and rotate the motor all the way in the other direction till u touch the stop again. Write that degree down and do this formula. degree + degree divided by 2. That gives u your true TDC and make sure to rrepeat the method again to be sure u are right on. Also make sure that it was the TDC of compression or u will be 180 on the fuel sync. You will see a line in the distributor when at true TDC of compression stroke the rotor should be lined up exactly with that mark. If not line them up then button it up and take it for a drive. It either will be right on or close enough where turning it slightly in either direction will get it running like a top.
Good Luck

Well guys, i broke down and decided to let a shop look at it. Now im kicking myself..turns out i was looking too hard to find the problem. They had it running in less than an hour..Spark plug wires weren't in the right firing order... : /

Now i had checked them the first time i tried to start them.. but after pulling them off 2 dozen times setting the distributor, i figured i had the spots memorized and never checked the book.

Now my last great hurdle ( other than the dmv).. can anyone tell me where i can find the right exhaust manifold bolts set for the 3.9. I had autozone order me one and it was completely wrong. Ive been googling for hours trying to find them and no luck.

thanks for all the posts!
