Hey Guys,
my check engine light came on, got an output speed sensor reading.. While the light was on, my truck had a real hard time shifting gears. I was afraid my trany was going out. So I replace the speed sensor, and my truck ran and shifted perfect for about a week. Then it started acting up again, doing the same thing, rpm's would go way up before the truck would shift. I thought the sensor that I put in it went bad already. So I installed a new sensor. and about a week later the truck is now doing the same thing.. I dont understand, the check engine light hasnt been on since I change the sensor the first time. But both times when I put a new sensor in, the truck shifted fine for about a week. Is there anything that could be getting stopped up? and when I take the sensor out it is releasing pressure on something??
Any Ideas?

thanks guys

Also, since I have been having this trans problem, I can put my truck in 4x4 easily, but I now no longer get the green 4x4 light that usually came on under the gauges, even though the truck is in 4x4.
I dont know if this has anything to do with it.

thanks

Seems to me that you have a connector that is not getting a good connection. I'm willing to bet that when you replace the sensor, it gets a good connection, and then after a week of driving, it loosens back up and causes the same problem you had before.

I'd pull the electrical connector and check the condition of the connections...perhaps try some dielectric grease in it and see if that helps. Pay close attention to how tight the metal contacts are. I had a brake light problem and it ended up being a corroded wire in the short harness to the light right at the connector...a bad ground.

good suggestion
I would however clean them first
they get full of oils and fluids

spray the connector ends with some brake parts cleaner it dries fast then use the dielectric grease

Thanks alot guys! I tried your suggestions, and I think you guys are correct. there seems to be a build-up of grease or oil on the connectors. I do not have any dielectric grease at the moment, but I cleaned them off a little bit, and the truck ran perfect. I was worried my transmission was going out. But Ill pick up some of that dielectric grease and hopefully that fixes that prob.

Again thanks guys, Its pretty awesome how everybody on this site tries to help each other out.

as always, check for codes first before throwing parts at it. have you checked for stored codes since the trans shop worked on it?

I'd suspect the computer...it's gotta be running in closed loop mode and then once it sees the tranny is up to operating temp, the computer takes over and starts screwing it up. When you cycle the key off, you are temporarily putting it into closed loop mode again ( no sensor input for functionality )...open loop is when the computer starts using the sensors to make adjustments.

That's the first thought that comes to mind. How does the truck run otherwise as far as engine operation when the tranny acts up?
