A couple of weeks ago my Dak started running a little weird, it was pinging, and low on power. I remember when I was a kid, a few mechanics would pour water down the carb while it was running at high speed. I did just that to my Dak. I held the throttle wide open and poured a 20 oz. bottle of water down the throttle body some black stuff came out and some steam, after I ran out of water I let it run for a short while, maybe 3 minutes drove it back in my garage and when I went to work on Monday morning it was back to its old self again. (I did the water treatment on Saturday)
Its simple, and it works.
Good Luck

You have to be careful how much and how fast you pour this stuff in. The steam can kill your O2 sensor if you push too much thru, too fast.

If your having pinging issues before buying any additive go through your basics plugs, wires, cap so forth sounds like you might got a piece of foreign material passing through your injector might got lodged or ?? and running water through it might of free it up. Most of your gas out there should have enough additives to prevent carbon, pinging whatever else might arise. If your truck is running poorly for sometime than I could see issues, but for one day or couple than better sounds like bad gas or something getting pass the fuel sock and passing through your injector(s) And Bobs right with this stuff and anything else before pouring through the the throttle body can mess alot up and may cost you more than the additive follow instructions dont differ than instructed on labeling

I think all of you have some good points, I use 89 octane in mine all the time, when I rebuilt my engine I had the block ands heads milled, partly because they were warped, and partly because from the factory the block was a little uneven from side to side. My compression is up to 180 on all clyinders, plus since mine is an 88 I can play with the timing a little where as with the Mag engines you can't. My main point is, that water can help break up carbon, and you don't get the smoke you will get with seafoam, or other additives. I remember some people using auto transmission fluid and let set for about 30-60 minutes then take it out and run the crap out of it, often it worked, but it sure put out a lot of smoke, plus with water its not as likely to hurt the catcon.
Just my ideas anyway.
Thanks to all of you for your input.

I used to do the water/steam thing too, but I understand that the steam can create very high pressure and can blow out your head gaskets. The most widely used product to pour down the throttle body while running is Seafoam.

Most of the guys at this site use it. 500 miles before an oil change I use a chemical called "Kreen". That stuff really loosens carbon in the crankcase. I haven't poured it down the TB though.

I'm not worried about carbon, or sludge in my crankcase, I was just having problems with pinging, since I used the water I haven't had anymore problems. I use syntec (Castrol) oil and I don't think I have a problem with sludge.
One thing I don't like about the stuff you put in the oil is it thins the oil to help clean, I spent $2000 to rebuild my engine, I don't like the idea of using that stuff in my engine.
Thanks for your input.
