Subject: Airhat part?
IP: Logged

Message:
when swapping on my new tb, i dropped the airhat part that sits ontop of the tb and directs the air from the cai into the intake, and it cracked and busted

thing is, its not technically called an "airhat" i dont believe, i tried looking online for a replacement one but if i dont know what its really called, i cant find 1

so what is the technical term for it? its nothing fancy, but right now, im not gonna drive my truck with no filter protection, so im kinda stuck

please help me asap

It sounds like you dropped and broke the part that sits on top of the TB and has a screw coming up from the bottom with a nut holding it down? Most of us here call it an air hat. My Dodge service manual calls it an air duct. Sounds like another junk yard item to me. Or maybe if it is not broken too bad you could patch it back together with epoxy? May not be the best way but would be cheaper till you can find and afford a replacement part. How did the V8 tb work out for you?

went on easy as pie, but getting the old cable thru the firewall took about 15-20min, cudnt get the tabs squeezed in

got about 5miles on it after the pcm was reset, so well see how much it improves

i know you guys call it an air hat, but the problem is i have the worst junkyards in history near me, they keep certain parts, and scrap the rest of the vehicle, only dakota parts they have is 1 engine, no cables, no truck, just the engine

so im forced to resort to ebay for the hat, i might glue it, but its such a small simple part, im sure it will be dirt cheap if i can find 1

I looked online for it too. Nobody lists it on the junk yard websites I have. It might be better to use 5 minute epoxy because it will hold up to the heat under the hood better than glue. Or fiberglass and resin would work too.

It took some convincing to get my old tb cable and the one from the Durango donor truck loose from the firewall too.

go to Advamce auto and pick up an Edlbrock Air Hat for $25. Comes with a filter. It really opens it up.

I thought it was more open than a cold air and cheaper.

it is, but it wont fit under my hood and i got other plans for air, i just needed the part that connects the tube to the throttle body, the block thing with the large nut on top of it, aftermarket or OEM, doesnt matter

If you have an after market air hat then you should probably tell everyone what brand it is. I think many are assuming that it is the stock air hat. If you don't know the brand then a picture would help. Host your pic on photobucket.com or similar site.

You say that you are looking to add a different system so why not use something cheap and temporary? I've used these.
Try an Edelbrock Pro-Flo.

They fit well and look great by getting rid of all that factory plumbing.

your not understanding me, the only factory part, was the part that sits on top of the throttle body, the air hat itself is all i need, not a new intake system, just the airhat so i can connect my CAI to the throttle body, im not looking to replace my CAI

It's not that EVERYBODY misunderstands you it's just that you don't like their advice. When you originally started this thread you were far from being clear as to what you needed, stock or aftermarket.

If you really want to get one you should try a WTB thread in this forum or better yet one of the other more popular forums. Since the Throttle body air inlet bonnet is common to both the v8 and v6 I would suggest that you post the WTB thread in the General forum. Not all v8 owners read the v6 forum.

If you don't feel that that is good advice then I'm really sorry.

I have the part, it's not smashed or broken. 40 bucks plus shipping. But maybe you need to just buy a new aftermarket Cold Air Intake, or just the breather and filter. Your so confused.

You ever hear of the KISS method?
