Ok...I have a '97 kota v-6 auto w/ 222,500kms, and lately the tranny (I think) has been slipping alot. Sometimes it feels like its jumping gears or starting off in 2nd, and sometimes when I stop at a red light/stop sign, then step on the gas, the rpms hit almost 4000 but the truck doesn't move an inch, then if I let off the gas and try again, it will either do it again or take off super fast causing me to slide or squeal tires. I've been adding almost a liter of fluid every 5-6 days, and I leave little pinkish orangish puddles everywhere I go, so obviously theres a leak, but I cant afford to drop any large chunk of coin into her for another 2 weeks. If I keep the fluid up, will she be ok for another 2 weeks? I don't want to cause any more damage then necessary!
Another question about lower ball joints. I am due to replace the lower right bj again, but last did it in nov. '05...is this too soon or does it depend on the amount of kms I drive etc.? Both lowers and uppers were changed by the middle of '06...it just seems like it should last longer than it does! Maybe I'm being unrealistic tho!

Thanx for all ur help guys...much appreciated!

~Sandy~

if you absolutely have to wait on doing anything about the leak, keeping the fluid topped off will hold you. have you checked for any codes? i'm not sure on a '97 but try this. turn the key on/off/on/off/on( by on i mean on NOT Start). the codes should display in the odometer as Pxxx. when it's finished or there are no codes, it will display Pdone. if the key trick doesn't work most parts stores can read the codes for you. if you have any post back.

with that many miles chances are your tranny needs a good fluid & filter change. remember use only ATF+4.

for the balljoints. they should last longer than 2 yrs unless you're driving 50k miles a yr. if you
