How did you wire it to the coil? Positive or negative terminal?

All the tachs I have seen have four wires a red positive 12 volt switched source, a white wire that gets tied to you dash lights, a green signal wire that gets tied to the negative on the coil, and a black that goes to ground. Then there is also usually a dip switch on the tach to select the number of cylinders. I would make sure you have a good ground then check you other connections.
