my truck wont start, and when it does, it kills unless i have my foot on the gas and give it a little and hold it, i take my foot off, it kills

it cant idle

the check engine light is also on and just came on today

i took the AIT sensor out and extended the wires and put it back, checked the wires, they are fine

nothing else is modded, 100% stock

the battery died this morning so i put the charger on and thought thats why it wouldnt idle, but the battery is charged and it still wont idle

this is my only vehicle, i am stranded at home until its fixed

any ideas? please help

Try checking the codes, turn on/off the ignition switch 3 times then leave it on the 3rd time and see what the codes are they should come up in the odometer when done it should say Pdone.
The trouble code will help more than just guessing at what the problem is.
Good Luck

have your battery load tested. it can still be strong enough to start the engine but weak enough for the pcm to lose idle memory.

so a friend suggested that i could just have water in the lines, so i went n got a bottle of HEET and filled up with gas, the second i turned the car back on the light went off

i doubt it was because of the gas and HEET since it wouldnt have cycled that quickly, but who knows, ima try that trick with turnin the key on and off, that will deffinately come in handy next time

I just experienced something like this with my '97 V6. I don't know much about automotives (never took it in high school), so I have a garage do most of my work until I catch up on the learning curve. I was told that it was the return sender. It tells the computer that the engine is running hotter than it really is, so the ignition gets cut. I'm not sure, maybe I was taken.

If you didn't get any codes, then I'd probably bet that daddio hit it on the head. I had this exact problem with another vehicle. What happened was the battery went dead, and reset the computer. I had to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running whenever I'd stop, but after a few days of running, it "relearned" all of the idling parameters. Soon after that happened, I had to get a new battery because the old one wouldn't hold a charge. After that, I didn't have a problem with it. I'd get your alternator checked while your at it too, you can get it done for free @ advance auto (not sure about anywhere else).

i think daddio was right again, the battery ran dead that day because i was replacing the blower motor resistor with the radio and lights on(2amps,a tv, 4 subs, neon)and i just left it on 2 long, eventually it did "relearn" the idle speed and was fine, but i was worried for awhile, this happened once b4 now that i think of it, where it wouldnt idle, and it was right after my battery died n i needed a jump, i just figured i didnt have enough battery power after the jump so i had 2 keep my foot on the gas 2 keep the engine running and the battery charging, either way it all worked out, ill check out a new battery soon just incase, thanks
