well the battery is only 600amps, and is having a switch the law?

will my wire gauges and set up work fine? thats what i really want to know

4gauge ground to battery then to mount, then another 4gauge to distribution block to 3 8gauge wires going to bed, engine, and cab

is that fine?

"a disconnect switch rated for that many amps(approx. 1000) is gonna be expensive." It doesn't need to be rated for the CCA of the battery - duh. It needs to be rated for the maximum current flow, plus a little safety margin. And it needs to have extremely low resistance, since current is always flowing thru it when in use.

As to wire choice, you need to select a gauge that will give you the same resistance with the new length, as you had with the old length. If the resistance of the run is too high, you'll have too much of a voltage drop.

well then would some1 tell me what i need instead of telling me that what i think is wrong?

if im wrong im wrong, but then i need to know what i do need in order to move on and do it right

600amp battery moving 8foot backwards into the front most part of the bed on the driver side, right in the corner

what gauge power cable do i need
what gauge ground cable to i need to go to the battery, engine, bay, bed and frame rail?

spkdtch2 The way this was explained to me was you take you old cable measure the ohms from one end to the other with a dvom Then you simple go to wherever you are buying your cable from and tell them you need 8ft of cable that is the same total resistance as your factory piece.

The idea of resistances sounds complacated, but the longer the wire/cable the higher resistance because of the lenght, the larger the wire/cable the least resistance. one thing to remember if you use a cable that is too big, is much better than using one that is too small. Frankly though, I don't know if going from the under hood to the left front of the bed is going to be a whole lot longer than the orignal, unless the cab is a 4door. Just be sure to make sure the engine is grounded to the frame, and the cab/bed has a few ground wires as well. in general, most regular sized ground cables should be fine, plus the factory should already have a few ground cables/wires in place, I'm just thinking I would be sure they are all clean (where they connect to the frame) and in good shape.
Good Luck

I have a problem with my 6-cylinder, 4-wheel drive, 2001 Dodge Dakota completely ruining batteries. I got a three-year warranted battery in February 2008 and it was completely ruined by October 2008. The alternator seems to work fine. Anyone with ideas to what my problem is?
