How hard is it to install a TBI Spacer? Do I have to lenghten any wires? Should I use a RTV to seal the gaskets? Thanks for any help.

The TBI spacers work on the premise of allowing the fuel/air mixture to mix better before getting to the cylinder. Main reason it doesn't work on the 3.9L, 5.2L, and 5.9Ls (I've heard there are minor gains on a 4.7L) is the fact that the fuel is injected -directly into the cylinder- by fuel injectors.

It also has something to do with the design of the 'Beer Barrel' intake manifold, that totally negates the effect of the TBI Spacer. Reports indicate that the spacer makes a loud hissing noise on these engines, and thats about it. If you want a loud hissing, go right ahead.

If you want better performance, consider a home-built cold air intake system (or order a pre-built one, I have an Airaid that I love). If you've already got an intake, look into replacing the muffler with a higher performance one. If you've got that, look into either relocating the IAT sensor or getting an IAT adjuster (info on both at www.speedtweaks.net), also consider checking out the TPS voltage Mod (also speedtweaks).

If you've got a Gen-III Dakota, as long as it's a 1999 or older, you can install FMS #19 Fuel Injectors, I've heard of minor gains (improved idle mainly). Also consider the Autolite spark plugs who's number I can't remember but everyone uses. :0)

If your adventerous, check out www.fast4x4.net and look into the 'Home Throttle Body Porting' mod, I did this to mine and it made a nice noticable difference.

Todd, are you sure about the FMS injectors only working on 1999 and up Daks? I thought that it was 97 and up daks b/c they have the same engines and setups? I also thought that below that you could still use the FMS injectors, just s diffferent part number. Can anyone verify this for sure?

Thanks alot! I understand now. I have a Homebrew intake, which I sell on eBay, a Magnaflow cat back exhaust, Jet Module and I'm installing the plugs, Autolite 3923's today. I have a 160 stat also. I bought his truck used with 5300 miles on it. It is a bone stock 2000 Dakota with a 3.9 v6. It had 215-75-15 tires on it. After I installed a 3" body lift, I put 33" tires on 15x8 Durango wheels. Recently installed a cowl induction hood so I'm looking to get alittle more horsepower without screwing up my factory warranty. Thanks again!

Jed... you might want to think about switching that 160 t-stat to a 180. It can make the engine run too cold and it wont get up to proper operating temp. Our daks run the best at around 183 i think. Just search this site for thermostat or 160 t-stat and you will see that that issue has been addressed many times. I think Bernd has commented on it a lot. Sorry to be nosey, just trying to help out!
