I put the MSD SS Blaster Coil and the MSD 6A ignition module onto my truck. My PCM went bad and i had to get it replaced. The shop that replaced it said that it went bad because i put a hotter ignition system on my truck.
How true is this?! Cause i know tons of you guys have this setup on your trucks.

I assume you had the PCM replaced by the dealer for free since its covered under the 8yr/80,000 mile federal emissions law

Well today i got a call from dodge, They replaced the PCM and kept on the MSD system like i requested. And they said the second computer had fired again. So i have to pay for another computer!
They said that the coil was not getting a good ground and that what was causing the PCM to burn out.

somehow to me this doesnt sound right and i work with computers day in, day out. I know having a bad ground will cause problems but nothing to fry it....

any input now?!

If it were a bad ground then it would still have nothing to do with the MSD. Since the coil is plug and play you would have the same ground problem with a stock coil.

I had a similar problem. In my case it was due
to a bad connection hitting ground. What I mean
to say is...

You know how the 6a came with those male/female
connectors. Well when I made my splices they
were near open metal (ground). Sometime while I
was driving the spark jumped and it fried my
PCM. To fix the problem I used heat shrink wrap
at all splice points and also a wire managment
system (that ribbed black tubing stuff). Hope
that helps.

Yea i did all that! on all my splices and i even used the wiring harness to make life easier. this way i can attach or dis-attach the 6A unit whenever wanted.

I found this out and i thought i would be this out there.
MSD supply's a diode with the 6A and 6AL. If it is not install on the pre 1999 system it will set a tach signal DTC. And if not installed on the later system the coil driver will be fried in the PCM.

found out the there were two Manufactures of drivers used in production. One of them would work without a problem and the other would fry the minute you started the engine.
