Ok I have an idea to build a 3.3. My wife has a 95 intrepid the lower ball joint on the right side broke 2 weeks ago and the car is not worth fixing. the tranny slips. The 3.3 is still rock solid with 150,000 on the clock. My thought is to pull the engine and wiring harness and ditch the car. Here is my questions. How much power can I get out of it with out goin to wild on money?? Where can I get performance parts?? And finally would it bolt up to say an A-500 or 518?? I'm not sure what i would put it in and even if it doable or worth the time to have some thing a lottle different.

Thanks for any input,

Aaron

dakattack98, I don't know much about the 3.3 other than it was only used in front wheel drive cars and mini vans. As far as high performance parts, I doubt if there is anything out there unless its from Chrysler. I also doubt if it will bolt to anything other than a front wheel drive transmission either. Not to mention that the motor mounts are a lot different than any of the rear wheel drive cars/trucks. That doesn't mean you can't make an adapter to put the engine in a Dakota, or some other truck or car though. I do think a Dakota with a 3.3 would be interesting and maybe even fast. I don't know what the horse power is on the 3.3, but it is probably more than an early 3.9, and a lot more fuel mileage. Just remember if you make an adapter to bolt it up to another engine, you will need to move the flywheel the same thickness as the adapter plate, that can cause problems with the starter as well, but nothing is easy. Another problem, if you can get it to bolt up to a-500, will the torque converter bolt to the 3.3 flex plate? Over all, it sounds like a lot of work. If you have a lot of time it could be an interesting project though.
Good Luck

Not too far fetched of an idea, the boys at DC already did it...with a few changes, that engine, bored and stroked to 3.8 saw duty in Jeeps and Chargers.
What you want to do won't work, as the block is cast differently for different mounts.

Thanks for the info guys!!! I think I'm gonna keep the car as a project and fix it. My wife will be getting a 97 Concord on Sunday when my dad drives it up from Nj.

I think that would be one HELL of an Interpid. But the key would be to keep it stock looking and go and spank some mustangs and camaros.

Why mess with the smog dog 400?
Get a 383, much better pistons and heads in stock form. Better yet, 440-6 bolted to an A-518! 727 w/OD.

Or how about the MoPar performance LA (small block) based 4 banger w/727?

Of course, these mods would require significant mods, including RWD.

Fun to think about!
