Seems it used to only happen once in awhile and done it every time its cold since I got the truck. A bit hard to get out of 1 gear and into the next & very hard to get into first or reverse. However some times once the truck has been running for awhile and is fully warmed up I have no troubles at all. I just serviced the trans again so the gear oil is full and clean. Am I looking at a new clutch and throw out bearing soon guys or something else possibly going on?

Curly, it could be the oil you are using, I'm pertty sure Dodge recomends either 10W30 engine oil or auto trans fluid. I have an 88 with a 5speed and I am using syntheic ATF and it shifts fine. You could be having clutch problems, but you would be having the same problem all the time if it was the clutch I think. Can you start the engine and go from nuetral to first without any problems? If so it could be the clutch isn't fully disengaging, and that could be causing the problems you are having. Make sure the slave cylinder at the bell housing is tight, there are 2 nuts that hold it on, if they get loose it can cause the same problems.
Good Luck

i dont think his clutch is the issue..... its the sycros in the gears.... they allow for smooth shifts while the clutch is depressed.... seems like an internal problem...

Curly, what kind of gear oil did you put back in? You should have used 10W30 motor oil, if you used regular gear oil that could be part of the problem. I disagree with Scott however, because if the clutch isn't fully disengaging it would, or could cause the same problems you are having.Good Luck

"According to DaimlerChrysler, the AX-4, AX-5 and AX-15 should use the Mopar product meeting spec MS9684, which is rated as a 75W90 GL-3 lubricant. "

However they did ad

"DaimlerChysler, that product should be used only in the AX-series trannies 1998 and newer, and the older ones should use 75W90 GL-5 gear lube (which is what the '94 FSM calls for."
