if i'm not mistaken, the V6 engines in the 96 and 99 dakotas are both the same engines (they're both Magnum engines) right? so if i get an air hat off a 96 V6 it will fit my 99, correct?

Any air hat from V8 or V6 will work.

Mine is off a 97 318 mag.

Good luck, Scott

the airhats on the 96's are not the same style as your 99. They will fit but I dodnt think it is what you are looking for. In 96 and earlier trucks the airbox sat on top of the throttle body and housed a round filter. The 97 and later daks just have an "air hat" like on your 99 then a tube leading to a seperate box housing the filter.

Guess I didnt read enough before answerin.

Yes Greg is right, earlier V6's had an air filter right on top of the TB just like old cars and trucks.

If thats what your thinkin of doing thats ok but an air hat (like you should have now) and ram air connected up to it is better.

Gets fresher cooler air, the filter on top of the engine tends to get only hot air that comes off the engine.

hope this helps, again, Scott
