Subject: Possible camshaft question

I have a 94 v6 3.9L 4x4 with 110,000 miles on it. I recently took it out and I took it up to 112 mph, which I should have not done, anyway, I only did that once or twice then I stopped and went the speed limit, (65) the rest of the way home. Anyway, it drove fine for 20 miles after I took it up to the 112 (almost 5k RPM's redline), and then I hit a stoplight and i stopped, then it ran at idle for a few seconds, then it just shut off for no reason, just the engine, not the electrical, and it wouldnt start after that, it would still crank a little bit but wouldnt turn over, but the crank didnt sound the same, alot more quieter, almost like no compression, i dont know. So I used the on board diagnostics and code 54 popped up, which came up as crankshaft not responding, anybody have ideas? Did I kill my crankshaft or the crankshaft bearings or something like that, any help would be appreciated!

I'd be suspecting the timing chain at 110K miles.

Yeah thats what I am thinking about, I am going to open up the cover tomorrow and make sure. Luckily I was at a stop when it broke and not at a high RPM, so I doubt I messed up the valves, hopefully theres good clearence for them. Thanks, anything else let me know!

Quick way to check the chain....pop the distributor cap, put socket w/ratchet on crankshaft pulley bolt, eyeball rotor position & rotate crank. The rotor will turn with the crank. If there is any slack or a broken chain/gear you will see it here....Rotate crank in both directions to see all the slack...Should be no slack...Good luck

I have a 98 Dak with V-6 and 4 by 4....didn't know that they could even go that fast. 112 miles an hour? The fastest I have had mine was at 85...makes me want to go out tomorrow morning and see if my Dak can really go that fast.

I didnt know they could go that fast also! I usually top at 95, but I have the OD switch , and I turned it off, it let the gear run at a higher RPM and it took me to 112! I was impressed, only aftermarkets I have is a high flow catback and flowmasters. Unless the previous owner put something else on that im not aware of.
