Will the 4 cylinder manual trans out of a 92 Dakota mate up against my Magnum V6 out of my 93? Is it just a matter of getting a new bellhousing? Its not a worked up V6 all it has is the K and N open element air cleaner, so Im not worried about overpowering the trans.

powerslave03, if I remember correctly the trans used with the V6 and the 4 was the same, but I do think in 93 Dodge changed transmissions, so it might bolt right up, or maybe not. Just remember the older trans was bolted to an engine that only made 120horsepower and 195 #ft. torque.
I think the magnum makes closer to 175HP.
Good Luck, and let us know if it works out ok.

Yea things seem pretty vague. Not like the 72 Camaro I had, where I can find everything possible out about the car including what numbers got stamped on the original spark plug wires.

I cant seem to find out the different engine/trans combinations, but things seem to be pointing towards the AX15.

I think the magnum started in 92 but I could be wrong.

I believe that a 4 cylinder AX15 can be used with the proper bell housing for the 3.9L w/ AX15. The AX15 should easily hold to the 3.9L as it was also used on the 3.9L Dakotas. at least for manual transmission Dakotas the transmissions are an NP535 for 3.9L LA and briefly into 92 with the Magnums from what I have heard the 4cylinder had the AX15 and 92 up Dakotas used the AX15 as well, by around 94 and 95 the 3.9L got the stouter NV3500 transmission which was also used with the 5.2L. Also if you were interested Hurst makes a shifter for both AX15 and NV3500. all my info may not be exactly correct as I'm not positive what transmission the 4 cylinder used pre-92 but as I have a '91 3.9L 5-speed I can conform the NP535
