Subject: How Long will my truck last?

I have a 1994 Dodge dakota catering truck conversion with 126,000 miles on it. We take realtivley good care of it. We get oil changes every three months etc... It has a v6 engine. We really only make short trips with it, we never really take it on the highway. Actually i dont think its ever been on the highway. It is a catering truck so it is always carrying a load.

You can view a picture of it at

All the way to the crash site? Hope it never happens, but if it's wrecked and too costly to repair, insurance will total it and you'll get a check. Never can tell with inexperienced driver/poor decision makers/drivers under influence of alcohol or drugs.

Or until you no longer want to put money into it. Eventually something will happen that will make you think .. is it worth pouring that kind money into it? Could be tomorrow, could be 200,000 miles from now.

My 95 3.9L V6 went almost 170k miles with no major engine or transmission problems. I did have a few electrial issues, some failing sensors, etc. I simply got tired of replacing something every week, every other week (more so my wife). We only had 2 vehicles and needed both for daily driving.

keep up the good maintenance and it'll could last a long time and you'll get more than what you paid for it out of it.

Never having been on the highway is definately not a PLUS. You may want to get more frequent oil changes especially if you live in northern climates. On short trips the truck doesn't get a chance to fully warm up and burn off the moisture that is created. This will lead to sludge and these trucks are noted for that.
