What is the deal? Has anyone run across a problem with backfiring with a cold engine? My truck can set for 6 or 7 hours and when I hit second gear (manual trans) it bogs then backfires. I can not tell if it is in the exhuast or intake. It is muffled, but present.

Help!!!
Thanks,
Brian

carbon tracked cap, bad wires a bad plug will
also cause back fire

The bog is not normal either

any trouble codes and what year truck

I had a new 93 V6 5 speed with only 4,000 miles
on it and it was doing what you described

chrysler bought the truck back from me because
they could not find the problem that was a
weired one I could not figure it out either

So I went home that day with a 1994 V6 Auto trans
truck LOL

Larry,

No codes. It's a 98. It started befor I replaced plugs, wires, and cap/rotor. I can not find the problem! I will have to pull the cap off and check for cracks and premature failures.

Thanks

I've been chasing the same proplem around on a low milage 92 3.9 for a year. If I let the engine warm up to full op temp it will run up to 3k rpm. if it starts farting I turn the ignition off & on again while rolling (at a lower rpm) & it runs fine again for a while. I've thrown all the usual parts at it & taken it to two mechanics with no effect, so don't go that rout. 98 should give a much better read out of what's going on than a 92. Have you got any codes showing? Also my cat converter just fell apart inside. Theres no downstream sensor on 92's but should show up on your's if that is problem. To Q&D check sensors try unpluging one at a time then check codes. Wish Chrysler would replace my truck! Good luck.
