 Subject: round air filter problems help Larry??

I put on an edlebrock 10 inch round air cleaner last month and I am consistantly getting less gas mileage. I was getting 16-17 with the stock set up and now I am getting 14-15. y is this I always herd that the air cleaner would get better gas mileage. this however is still the only mod I have done due to the fact that I am low on money ahe parents(im 16)won't let me mod up the truck even though I paid for it.
I have and 02 dodge dakota 3.9 2wd
what else can I do to get better gas mileage

Ive actually heard you can lose mileage with round open filters, because youactually pull hot air off the engine. I took mine off and went with a cold air kit.

No problem, I actually had a catback on the truck at the when I put mine on. Keep in mind mine is a 4.7 so my mileage was not the best to begin with. With the factory intake and catback I was getting around 10mpg, which is what it got brand new with the cold air kit Im averaging 11-12mpg. I had an s10 before this truck that had an open round filter and like I said it cost me mpg and a little power so I put the factor setup back and the mileage returned to normal.
