my buddy rolled his 97 dakota 4x4 last night. He said he would sell it to me for $700. I have a 02 dakota 4x4 with the V6 and want a good 318. just wondering if his truck and my truck are similar. I want the motor and trans out of it. will it fit? Thanks in advance

Trevor, if his truck has a 5.2 (318) then I would think it would fit, cause they used a V8 in your truck as well. Only if your truck has a 3.9 V6 though, it will be close to a drop in. You may have to use a lot of parts from the 97 to make everything work. If yours has a 3.7 V6 it may not be as easy. You will need to use the computer and wiring, and motor mounts and trans cross member/mount, I don't know about the drive shaft though, most likely the trans yoke is bigger than the yoke for the V6. You may have to have the drive shaft shortened as well. And the exhaust will probably need to be used as wll. Or you could have a custom exh. made up.
Over all, with the complete donnor truck and a little time it should work.
Good Luck
