 Subject: Bad fuel mileage

I got a 02 dakota with a 3.9L automatic. about 8 months ago i was getting 16-19 mpg and now all of a sudden im gettin 8-9 mpg. The only mod i have done in this time is relocate the IAT sensor. Would this be the cause of my poor poor fuel mileage?

relocating the IAT would affect mileage but not that much. the O2 sensors probably took a crap. sudden drop in mileage is usually attributed to the O2 sensors.

yeah i was thinking the 02 sensors. what brand should i replace the stock ones with?

larry @ J & J recommends the NGK/NTK brand. i purchased a Bosch for my son's Saturn and so far it's been fine but others have reported problems with the Bosch.

ok thanks for all your info. it was very helpful. i think ill go with the NGK/NTK brand, just cuz i trust larry alot. Thanks again

no problem but, you may want to check them before you go and buy new ones. there are a few post on here that tell how to check the O2's you may just have to search a little.

trevner, if you do replace your o2, stay away from the Bosch, they make a lot of good products but they o2 for the Dodge is junk.
I'm with Daddio and Larry on this one go with the Ngk/Ntk brand not only are they better, they are cheaper if you buy them on line at ngk.com
