I think this has been in here before but when I start my 2001 3.9 engine after sitting all night and it starts to idle it will idle smooth for a minuite then it seems to load up, then after a very short time it will staighten out and idle smooth. Its got new plugs and its all stock and has 51,000 miles on it. It gets good gas mileage.
That is the only problem I have. Thanks in advace for the help.

do you still have the original battery? if so i'd start by having it load tested. a weak battery will start the truck but cause that rough idle for a few seconds after a cold start. my '00 does that almost every morning. after 7-1/2 yrs i may need to think about changing my battery.

not that it still couldn't be the battery but, you could try cleaning the IAC(idle air control) motor mounted on the back of the TB. and also, check /clean the battery connections.

Thanks daddio I cleaned both post on the battery surprised how dirty they were after just one year with a new battery. While I had the cables off I took out the IAC and it didn't look bad just kind of a black oily film so I cleaned it up good put it all back together and it really Idles a lot better and even seems like it runs better on the road. Thanks again.

Let your engine warm up. Note RPM. put in drive (if auto) and turn on AC up full. If no drop in RPM, IAC is probably working.
