Subject: P0320 Fault Code.

Well, I updated the software on my OBD2 code-reader and just figured that I would hook it up to my truck. It comes up with the fault code "P0320." The check engine never came on. I went and looked it up. " Crankshaft Position Sensor CKT," or " Ignition/Distributor Engine Speed Input Circuit Malfunction." I am scared about this. The truck runs fine. The only trouble I have out of it is that after I have ran it for awhile if I let it sit for more than 1 hour, but no longer (as far as I can tell) 1 day it will not fire. It will eventually fire. If I let it sit over night and go out to it, it fires right up. I never could figure it out. The way this code is defined makes me believe that my Crankshaft Position Sensor is out or going out. How much is one of these things? Are they hard to replace?

'97 RC V6, 5spd, soon to be V8, 5spd!
Maybe not a 5-speed, but an automatic will work.

They can be hard to get to, most all the ones I have seen on dodge bolt on the back of the engine block and extend into the transmission bell housing. GP Sorensen has it for about 98.00. The part number is either css 128 or css 127 I really cant remeber. It could be a faulty connection though so check the wiring.

It'll be slightly different for you since you've got a 5 speed, but this will give you the basic idea of what's involved...

http://www.ohiodakotas.net/docs/Crankshaft%20Position%20Sensor.doc

I got one at Autozone for $48 a while back though once again, you have a 5 spd so it may not be the same price. Price around...Advance wanted $100 for one whereas Autozone had one for $48.

What I found easiest when doing mine was to remove the inner fender (you'll need to buy new clips to replace the ones you cut off removing the fender) and then I could reach it...getting the wire harness up through the engine bay was a bit of a b!tch, but with the help of a friend, we got it.
