I am just starting out. I already hav an edlebrock air cleaner and am considering ordering the fastman but am not sure if it would be worth it. 250 compared to a V8 body that cost less than half the price. what would be the next step after the throttle body? remember i want more power but also a little MPG increase

im not larry but he did teach me well!

you want

-2.5 inch exhaust and a good free flowing 2.5 inch muffler along with a high flow cat.

-good plugs like NGK FR5s which are one step cooler from stock

-some 1.7 rockers or roller rockers will be an excellent hp and mpg gain! harland sharp are a good direct bolt on. you can find these at summitracing.com i believe.

-good plug wires like MSD or ACCEL 8mm or 8.5mm
this goes along with a new cap and rotor

-some headers will do but not until all this is done..

when larry sees your post im sure he'll give you even more info!

That about covers it improve intake side first

cold air
bogger throttle body
1.7 roller rockers harland run very well

The intake will be ok as is but for the guy who
wants more gasket match the port

Some of the intakes this hangs into the port 1/4"
or more a big bottle neck

just lightly bolt a gasket on to intake and open
them up not just the very end but blend into
runner like a inch or so back around 1"

some stones and little sanding drumbs from any
hardware store will work finish with some sand
paper so its smooth

This makes a world of diff off idle low end
torque with benifits all the way to redline

I have seen them so bad the injector spray was
hitting this overhang you will see it blocking the
gasket opening

than exhaust
headers
high flow
good muff and tail 2.5
dual 2 1/8 O/D no bigger

Now ignition and computer mods these mods are much
more noticeable on a free flowing motor

All sensors good

At this point you will be way off stock tables
in the computer and it will take longer to fully
tune in at 500 it should start to run well to
very good and plugs tan now between 500 and
1000 miles it will fine tune and run very well
snappy and good low end torque

Hello J & J Auto, about the intake, do they have the same problem on the throttle body side? and is this something I might want to do on the exaust manifolds as well?

i'm not larry obviously
but anyway johnny
gasket matching the exhaust manifolds cant hurt
and only help
also de-burr the manifolds of any casting imperfections
i was reading a post a few weeks back on the v8 board
one of the guys did this and had noticed an improvement

I rebuilt my 88 3.9 and I opened up the exh. manifolds and did some polishing and it seemed to help, but mine was running so bad that nothing other than a regular rebuild would have done a world of good. I was getting 18-19 miles per gallon, but after I switched to Halo plugs, I gained 2 miles per gallon without any other changes. They are expensive, but worth it.
Good luck,

If you can find a set of 92 93 V6 exh manifolds
they are good for 5 hp just by bolting them on

Why in the world they went smaller in 94 is a good
question

The throttle body side is fine the bores are 48mm

All the V6 mag 92 to 03 have a 48mm throttle
body bore size

heres where it gets interesting 97 98 some did not
have the devider in the intake some had a cover
over the egr valve hole

99 up no egr provisions the way they went about
doing these chages makes no sence

4x4
remove devider gasket match good off idle low
end gains with a bigger body 1000 to 3000rpm

2 wheel
also shorten runners to 14"

You want the low end in a 4x4 a 2 wheel street
truck 2000 to 4000rpm gains

Also there are 2 converter stall speeds
2 wheel had a 900rpm stall
4 wheel had a 1200rpm stall

Using the high stall in a 2 wheel is a very nice
upgrade you can get the factory high stall
converters right around $200 I have seen them as
low as $169

If you do change torque converter even if you
pull your old one out GET A NEW FRONT SEAL no
if ands or butts here replace it be sure you
lube the seal with oil or trans fluid when instaled
