Subject: cost of a new starter
IP: Logged

Message:

My starter finally gave out on my '95 Dakota. I do quite a bit of wrenching on my truck but due to some other problems (flooding) I decided to take it to the dealership for the repair. Final cost was $352.31. I was shocked to see that the cost of the starter was $240.00!! Am I nukkin-futz or is this exorbitant?? I was thinking around a hundred to a hundred and a half. Granted, I haven't bought a starter in years. Anyway, just wondering what some of you think or if you have knowledge of what they sell for at a parts store.

Yup. You threw 300 bucks right out the window. Alternators are another one. When you hit 100.000 miles, it's time to rebuild both BEFORE they can damage them selfs.
