Subject: tranny and towing cap.

98 3.9 CC SLT auto. 135k miles. My tranny works fine until i am going about 60. It then will not accelerate unless i make it down shift a whole gear. Is this a torque converter problem. Everything works fine until i hit 55-60. So on the freeway i need to punch it to make it downshift to get any decent acceleration. let me know if you have ANY IDEA what it might be...thanks

Also my boss wants to know if i can tow a 6000lb trailer. I have 3.55 and know the capacity is only about 5000. Has anyone pushed it?

save yourself some future trouble and headaches
change fluid and filter and get a tranny cooler!
(if u dont have one all ready)

if you dont have the time or know how
check your local U-Haul they sell and install them at pretty decent prices

A shift kit and a cooler

Your 98 2 choices
TCI 220500
TransGo TFOD 518

Both have heavy duty towing setups

Either will firm up the shifts and give the bands
and clutches more holding power

The lockup shift on these trucks sucks I know
what you mean unless your like half throttle
or better they like to drop into lockup

The only way to change this is with some custom
programing

The supperchips tunner does have a 89 oct towing
program that will help also

I pulled a 7500 pound trailer once about 30 miles
the biggest prob was the swaying over 50 had to
run 45mph

bigger throttle body and the 1.7 rockers will
give you more low end torque

or you can consider going to 3.91 gears
