I have a 2002 Dodge Dakota with 37,000 miles on it. Black. And I wash and wax it regularly and I have 2 spots on the roof of my truck that are faded and turning white. I have contacted Dodge and the dealer and they both say too bad it's out of warranty. This is rediculous, it should not be having this issue yet. Anyone else having this issue? Can't we do a class action suit or something? Damn Dodge!!!

Have you buffed it? If you did, I'd say you burnt the clear coat off. And to be honest it isn't Dodge's fault.

No, I haven't buffed it and I when I went to Dodge they admitted it's their paint. They have had many complaints about the black, but told me I was SOL because it was out of warranty.

Just going to have to suck it up and have it repainted. I did not mine, but I also had some body damage and got a ram-air hood, so I needed one.

Very nice!!! Yeah I was thinking that. I will probably do any color but black. I only got black because it was the only 4 X 4 manual I could find in California.

not a good idea to change colors. it's only the clear that's bad. light sanding on it a spray clear.

was the truck new when you bought it? it could have some kind of damage to the roof, repaired at the dealer and you'd be none the wiser.

seen it too many times before. they don't have to tell you anything about either unless it was near totaled.

I was new only 20 miles on it. And I don't think it's the clear coat because it perfectly smooth, there is no flaking or anything, if it wasn't for the big white spots you would never even see it.

Clearcoat doesn't just flake off when it goes bad sometimes it causes the condition you see too.

maaco does like a 300 paintjob with clearcoat 2 or 3 year warrenty. as long as you dont change color price shouldnt go up from that unless body work is needed. cheap paintjob but will cover what you want covered.
BTW, be specific with them tho, if you dotn want somethign painted tell them, or if u want something painted that isnt usualy painted tell them. bad experiences teach you lessons.

or you could just simply get sumone you no who paints to spray the top for you and just buy the paint.

You can also buy touch up paint in a spray can at Dodge dealers. Sand a bigger area then is faded. Just be sure you work your way down to real fine sand paper. Spray it lightly several coats and when it is dried good (say 2 or 3 days ) and driving is ok after it feels dry, then use a damp cloth or good damp sponge and thin sanding compound to blend it in.

There has been numerous complaints on Dodge's paint jobs. Mine had it real bad. I have seen nice looking R/Ts go cheap because of this.

I have a 99 dak that the clear coat is just flaking right off and have also removed some of the decals and you can actually see where the paint has faded. Needless to say my tailgate still sais DODGE and there are no decals...

Brandee sounds like you have either a stone chip(s) in your roof top and getting worse the white spots you have are from waxing and filling it with wax or its the E-Coat which is the primer the manufactures put on before paint. Or when the truck rolled down the assembly line might have been bumped or something in the line might of hit it and pulled off the line and repaired and might of not repaired it properly there final prep deck might of not caught it after it left the assembly line. I use to work for a collison shop have seen this before . Check your warranty infomation manual you might be covered under the 5 yr. 100,000 mile outer panel warranty dealer is telling your 3 yr 36,000 mile is not covered which maybe true a way for them to get you off there back . I would contact someone and to see if you could arranged for someone in your area from Daimler Chrysler Customer Center # 800-992-1997 state your problem see if they would help . Also have a good autobody tech or manager in your area to look at it if see if this is a manufacture defect in the paint if it is have them document it on paper and give you a estimate for it then call customer service number I listed. Good Luck might get some more run arounds then again might this issue resolved .
