Ok, tonight driving to the beer store I heard a loud pop, then 3 loud thuds in the front drivers tire area. The thuds sounded like something was stuck in the wheel well. I pulled over and there was nothing on the road, under the truck, stuck or hanging anywhere. So I continued to the beer store going 40kms/hr (it was around the corner) and nothing...it ran fine. On the way home, I drove 60kms/hr and could feel a thumping under my "do nothing" foot (just under the parking brake), I can hear it and the only description I have is that it sounds like something is dragging the ground. The thump feels harder when I brake, or just start off from a stop sign, but is NOT felt in the gas/brake foot, just on the floor under the pb. My tires/brakes are fine, steering is the same, there's nothing stuck in the wheel well and nothing is dragging the ground...any thoughts?
I'm going to try and get her into my mech tomorrow, but I still have to drive it there, and don't wanna f*** it up more or crash it trying. Please help! :)

Thanx guys,
~Sandy~

I know that a 2wd will not have a front u-joint... it does not have an axle up there. It could be the tie-rod ends or the upper ball-joints I had one of my upper ball-joints go bad and it made all kinds of louding popping. Possibly a motor or transmission mount?

And the verdict is in...it's the wheel bearing, inner and outer tie-rods, and my shocks are f*ct. Oh and on the way there, my rear pass. tire went flat...there was a 2-2.5" cut in the tread...sweeet...$1200 CAD for everything, is this truck even worth that as a trade-in...damn! :(
Thanx again guys, you've been a big help, a bigger help would be to forward some $$$ my way! LoL!

Hello Sandy it all depends on how attached to your dakota you really are i checked out the canadian black book to see what you would get for it based on your km's and year and it states on the low side it is only worth 1,215.00 and on the high side around 2,264.00 so again it all depends on you.

Sounds like a lot to pay for those parts. How much do you like the mechanic you are using? Is that a fair cost for repairs? How about a second opinion. Just a thought. And the resale value of a 97 Dak sucks a whole bunch eh! I would think it should be worth more than $2200.00. Wasn't it around $20,000 CAD new in 97?
