about a year ago i put bosch platinum 2's in my truck and its been running rough ever since. so ive decided to put some e3's in it pretty soon. my truck has stock ignition, coil, the only difference is i have a summit brass cap and rotor with 8mm wires. its a 2001 3.9. what should i gap the e3's at? im also thinking i need to go 1 range colder because my truck knocks alot also. does that sound like a good idea? larry i know you know what you're talking about, what do you think?

I was running bosch platinum 2's as well at idle did it ever run rough. Just switched them out for a set of Autolite 3923. Now it feels like ive gained some bottem end TQ and it idles so smooth. I dont know who found out about the Autolite 3923 but they know what they are talking about

ryan, with a stock ignition, gap them to factory specs. .040 i think. and yes, 1 range colder could help the pinging. sometimes it is not enough. especially if you've done the CPS mod.

you cannot gap the e3 plugs, they are a set plug.
http://www.e3sparkplugs.com/products.asp
check them out for yourself.
If i remember correctly they are pre-set at .040.

ok then looks like i dont have to worry about gapping them. im waiting to hear some feedback about the e3's before i actually buy them. i might just go back to the autolite 3923's.

screweduphead, which NGK's are you running? I'm hoping to hear from Larry about the e3's to see if he recommends them over anything else. I've hear alot of good things about the NGK's.

After 20k miles on the E3 plugs, i had to replace them.
They came to be the worst i ever had.
They lasted just as much as the 3923, but they cost 4 times more, so the cost benefit was horrible.
I most say that on the begining i was very satisfied specialy w/ the consumption, (the best ever), but at 18k they started missfireing on the reacceleration from coasting.
Than, i got iridium ones now.
After 20k miles, they perform like the day one.
For all of you skeptic guys, you were wright again.
I just like to try new things and i expect to find good ones along w/ the bad.

I have mixed thoughts on the e3's

I bought a set of 3.64 to try them, with the
stock comp and the MSD system they seamed to
run ok but when I put the performance comp on
what a dog

I think most of it is the small .040 gap

Just looking at the quility of the plug I did
not like it just looks cheap looks like a cheap
pressed out ground part of plug and I did not
like the open part why have a center fire plug
with an opening like a conventiional

Now I have some customers who tried them some
were very happy others very unhappy they seamed
to run better in the 3.7 4.7 not the old mags

For the money $5.99 I think the NGK V Power ran
better I also droped 1mpg in my 4x4 to 19

I put the NGK back in at .055 and got 20mpg I gave
the e3 a fair chance at first they ran good but
over 1000 miles they begain to break down and
power loss

Putting the FR5 back it ran great again ran 200
miles got 20mpg

So now I go back to my old set of halo H9a
smother idle, better throttle response and
excelleration

gas mileage oh my 22mpg same as I always got with
the halo 22 24mpg

Now a guy with a 4.7 jeep droping in a set of
halo went from 17 to 20mpg more power smother
running

The champ and autolite for $.99 at walmart ok
with the autolite a little better than the champ
champ LC4 range 12 extended tip
RN12YLC4 autolite would be 5224
no 1 colder champ autolite 3923
I always used the AP plat tip not the APP
gap
stock obd1 to 95 .035 with MSD .060
96 and up obd2 .040 with MSD .060

The best bang for the buck for those who will not
try the halo the NGK V Power at $2.25 whould be
the way to go
FR4 stock heat
FR5 1 colder
stock obd 1 to 95 .035
96 up obd2 .040
with MSD .055

For the guy like me who wants the best performance
the halo is the only way to go at $8.99

The 17 is the stock range
the 15 is 1 colder
as usual there were none left on the shelf so
I got my first set of halo's out of my tool box
back than a H9a these plugs are like 5 years old
around 40,000 miles on them

The gap on the halo is .045

I expected more from the e3 being close in design
to the halo but it was just not there in my
opinion the NGK V Power ran better

We also are running the halo plugs with all the
super charged trucks and they run great the halo
is still the best plug out there you can just
look at them and see the quility no open spot
a true center fire plug

The halo is also gurranted for 100,000 miles

I ran the autolite for years than went to the
halo's but most would not pay the price so
when the V power came out I tested them and
found they were better than autolite but still
not as good as the halo

I have the halo's in all my cars and trucks and
have never changed any of them yet even my 5 year
old with 40,000 miles on them out did all the
rest and will be staying in my 4x4 untill it
dies

I should add to that the halo's in the foregn
motors the hp torque and gas mileage gains
are fantastic

it also seams the coil over and over head cam
motors like the ford 4.6 also react very well
to the halo the 4.6 lincolin town car gained
2mpg

They just seam to make the motors rev quicker
better throttle response and mpg in every motor
we used the halo's in

the super charged trucks it like the diff between
night and day how crisp the rev
