Isn't there enough "back pressure" right at the collectors? Not to mention the length of the pipes adding resistance. One side of a v6(3 ex. ports)goes into one pipe.I would think that 3 into one is already creating all the "BP" you need. With a v6,6 exhaust ports are fighting to flow through 2 collectors:ratio=3:1.But since you need a muffler and a cat(in most areas),why not run 2 seperate pipes with 2 seperate highflow cats(remember both sides used the same cat)and 2 seperate mufflers? This would keep you legal and only restrict the flow by 50%of what the original factor was.And since you need to have 02's for a visual fart sniff(state emissions test)weld bungs to each cat and put some dummies that look like they're tied together. Finally to offset the fear of MIL trouble, install a catbox so your pcm doesn't trip.Yes a very expensive endeavor to say the least, but who said going fast was cheap? Finally,if backpressure makes torque, why are lambo's and porsche's as freeflowing as they are? That would mean if you want your ferrari to have more torque, then you need a Y-pipe and "fake duals"like most of us here have.
