Message:
this code came up recently,( intermittent loss of the crank or cam position sensor), and the MIL went away by itself after about 3 stop and startup cycles. is it normal for this code to go away by itself ? thankyou for any replies. (2000 dak., 3.9, auto, 42,000km.,& severe cold and wind when it occured)

It should 'go away by itself' when the
problem no longer exists.
However it will probably still remain in memory
"until reset" , as a stored previous code.
The [ cold ] is what triggered it.
Most 'electronics' can only function down to
certain temperatures.. Fortunately , at least it was able to recover and keep you running..

It doesn't go away - it turns into a "stored code" and it IS kept in the PCM for future reference. It requires 2-3 good trips to clear (depending on the problem).

I'd be looking at the crank sensor - check the body for cracks...they're notorious for this (hot or cold weather).

As for the temperature, the dodge systems are more than capable of running in -20F weather without issues. The PCM has formulas built in that cover a huge temperature range to keep things running properly.
