2001 is a RE elect gov pressure control

The 91 would be a A500 32RH

the transmissions the higher the number the
stronger the trans in 95 they changed the angle
on the helix gears in the clusters and went
to the 42

96 and up are RE

any 88 to 95 A500 will work O/D lockup with
a 3 wire plug by the shifting linkage drivers
side

The truck does have push button over drive.
If I recall, I think I had a three prong flat connector that went up around the linkage, then another connector that went up to the push button o/d switch, and then another connector on the speed sensor.

"My transmission on a 2000 Dakota 4X4 Sport will not shift into Over drive right away when it is real cold. It does however shift 5 to 10 minutes later." This is normal. If you have the owner's manual it should tell this.

On older Daks, the tranny won't go into O/D until the coolant temperature is above 60F, and won't lockup until the coolant temperature is above 140F (the cold line on the gauge). On your truck, there is a temperature sensor in the tranny cooler line to the radiator, near the radiator. You'll find a single wire running to it. The temperature thresholds may be a little different with this sensor, but the principal is the same. O/D is delayed to avoid stressing a cold engine and cold tranny with thick fluids.

I found an A999 3 speed (I think that is what it is) I was told it came out of an 87 or 88. Okay, there is a problem, as I expected... I am turning way to many RPM with the stock 1991 rear end. Can I take the gears out of an 87 or 88 and put them into a 91 six lug rear end? Or can I just throw my 91 axles into an 87 rear end?

As long as they both have the same number of
splines

I seam to remember upto 95 they were all 27 in
96 they went to a 29 spline axle

count them to be sure

Now I just need to find a rear end out of an 87. I have the cluster in the truck with the 125mph speed-0 and the tach... So if I have 87 gears and the A999, will the speed sensor already on the a999 work correctly with the 125mph cluster? I am assuming that the speed sensor has a gear or something in it.

I just picked up a 94 Dakota that needs a tranny. I plan on dropping the trans this weekend, but I am hearing a rattle in the lower half of the engine that sounds to me like it may be the flywheel. It is a very inconsistent sound with no particular rythm or pattern. I hear it after the engine runs for a few minutes. Could this be trans noise? Anyone have any ideas?

Timmy, Some of us are actually utilizing this forum for useful information and networking. I am sure that you can find a million aol or yahoo chat rooms in which you can use your well thought out insults. Besides, I am sure that the keys to "your Triton v10" are stowed away in your Wife's purse along with your balls, so maybe you may want to check your own sack before investing so much thought into mine. Anyone who can give me any useful feedback on my original post, I would greatly appreciate it. Take care Timmy!
