i jsut bought my truck form a guy who ran it back and forth to work everday since it was new in 1998. It has 184000 miles on a 3.9 magnum and time after time my guage tells me that I'm not getting any oil pressure. I was wondering if this is a common problem with this engne? and whatI will have to do to fix it.

get a mechanical gauge on there and check to see if you really are getting no pressure or if its the sending unit

if your have no oil pressure you obviously dont want to be driving that truck

Does the red light come on also(idiot light) I had bad oil pressure but the light wouldn't come on and didn't follow the simple advice of check the sending unit. I changed my oil pump and the problem persisted until I ckecked my sending unit, BINGO!! It's alot simpler. do it first

I am so scared anymore when I drive my truck that I constantly watch the temp and oil pressure gage. I had a bad problem with a previous truck burning off the oil because it was running to warm.

My experiance tells me it isn't the pump. A worn out pump drops down in oil preasure as the engine warms up and stays down. SLUDGE can cause your problem as can the sending unit. also a pluged or defective oil filter can do this. FRAM FILTERS are the most pron by far. sounds like your guage goes up and down a lot. When down, do you hear any clattering going on? Myself I wouldn't drive it till it's fixed. Engines are pricy.

So many problems .... So little time

Had the same problem, red light came on usually at idle while in gear. It was the sending unit. Had it occur at about 160,000 miles.
