IF it runs great while cold, then it's running in 'closed loop' mode, meaning it's using all the default values from the sensors it uses to monitor engine performance. Once the engine warms up enough for the sensors to go online, then it goes to crap, one of those sensors is telling the computer a lie.

The O2 sensor does not come online until it has heated up ( which it has a built in heater to get it online faster ), so if it is the culprit, then it won't cause you problems right off the bat from a cold start ( at least to my understanding of how it works ). Could be something else, but it's most likely either a harness connection going to, or the actual sensor that goes online once the computer shifts into that mode that is causing the problem....that's my bet anyway.

Ok, here is what I have done after the fuel pump. I took it in to Precision Tune and after a $90 diagnostic charge and waiting for 2 hours, they said the 02 sensor was switching a little slowly, the water temp is only getting up to 160 degrees, the cap and rotor should be replaced. I replaced the cap and rotor about 15K miles ago with borg-warner parts, and I can see where it was arcing but that was after a lot of heavy revving up and down that the mechanic did. So this past weekend I put in a 195 stant, and changed out the coolant temperature sensor. I took off the alternator to get to the thermostat which is a good idea because of how tight it is in there. After taking off the alternator I noticed the main post on the back of the alternator was loose, so I tightened that up. I also sanded down the contacts to the alternator to make sure I was getting good contact. I used the blue silicone on the thermostat and the coolant temperature sensor. And after resetting the computer and running it for a couple of days, the idle hasn't fallen once. I also loosened and retightened the O2 sensor to make sure I could get off, because I have NGK 02 sensor coming in today from Sumitt. So it was either the alternator contacts being loose, the temp was not getting warm enough, the coolant temperature sensor, or the O2 harness that I unplugged and re-plugged back in. I will go ahead and still replace the O2 sensor for a little better fuel mileage hopefully. And I will definately let ya'll know if the same conditions come back. Just wanted to post my results so no one has to go down the same road I went down.
