This question hs probably been asked 1,000 times on this board, but it has generally been asked about specific items. How do I get the best horsepower, when I have done all the cheap/easy mods, without much result?

Mods that I have done and their results
(+/-) little to no gain
(+) small gain
(++) significant gain/change
(+++) holy $hit is this really a V6
(HI) only on really high RPMs

Gibson dual split exhaust (+)
Volant Cold Air Intake (+/-)(HI)
Venom 400 Control Module (+ to ++)
180 degree T-stat (+/-)
Relocated IAT (+/-)
20" Rims (-) -> kinda a joke
Keystone hood with vents directed at intake (+/-)(HI)
Bosch wires and +4 plugs (+/-)
Mopar 145K lockup Torque Converter (+/-)
Rebuild Tranny (+)
Mobile 1 Oil (+/-)
Stickers (++++)

Well some of the above items aren't really performance mods, but they have contributed in some way to the performance of my truck.

I can't afford a supercharger, or anything with extensive mechanical work, but I really would like to have some lower-end power.

I have 3.92 gears, and its a 99 3.9L.

I was thinking Harland Sharp 1.7s RR, but that would only help High End, although it still would help. I was also thinking removing the clutch fan, but I have heard that its not always that big of a change, and there are problems associated with overheating with flex fans.

Any new ideas on the market?

i would think the 1.7rr's would help thru the entire rpm range not just Hi rpm.

remove the clutch fan if you have an aftermarket electric fan or stock aux electric fan. don't remove it to put a flex fan. that kinda defeats the purpose of removing it in the first place.

a lot of guys on here swear by the Superchips tuner.

Why not get a dual electric fan setup and remove your clutch fan. Do you have a bigger tb, how bout doing the crank sensor mod. I have been doing mods slowly and I am slowly telling a difference. The biggest notice was when i ported my intake and used a v-8 tb. I havn't finished finding the parts i need for my cold air so i bought a holley 14 inch air cleaner assy, and add spacer to make fit.

93 Dakota 3.9 5spd, V-8 tb, ported intake, magnaflow cat back duals, soon to add cowl induction.
00 Durango 5.2 auto, flowmaster duals

i forgot about my tb

i have a flometrics 48mm tb (+/-)

i have acutally noticed a decrease in gas milage with this mod,

and yes i meant a electric fan assembly to replace my pully driven one

A larger tb should not reduce or increase your gas mileage. How much air you bring into the engine is entirely controled by how far the throttle plates are open. Unless you are at about 75% to WOT there is a throttle opening that would make all tb's flow the same amount of air.

That said, I can think of one situation where you might get reduced mileage with a larger tb. Since you open the throttle less to achieve the same air flow the tps would indicate a lower voltage. It might be possible that the computer would not advance the timing as much. Less advance usually means less gas mileage at lower rpms.

Keep in mind that all of your small mods work together and you will seldom notice an increase in performance from any single mod. The only way to gauge your performance is to dyno before doing any mods and then after they are all done unless you have a lot of money and can afford to do it after each one.
