 Subject: growling from front

i have a 2000 dakota 3.9 ext cab 4x4 and when i turn to the left or right i can hear a growling noise coming from the front tires (it seems) it is not the tires but it sounds like a bad u joint, i greased the u joint but it still does it i have no idea what it could be any ideas thanks
