Subject: Lower Ball Joint Replacement

Message:
Anybody ever replaced their lower ball joint? If so, was it a PITA?

Any tips/suggestions?

The boot on mine is split and its corroding inside the joint and been making squeaking and grinding noises lately. Figure it's time to replace it.

what the hell is a PITA? dont know that one yet...anyways, I have a 98 slt and I did all 4 of mine a few weeks ago...i bought the moogs, they have grease fittings so you dont have to worry so much about them not being greased...first thing you'll notice is that they are riveted to the control arms. SO to replace them I used a grinder and ground down the rivets, used a drill to drill them down far enough, then used a punch to punch them out. a lil time consuming but if you're good with the grinder and you find your grove you can get them out pretty quick. the moogs come with bolts and lock nuts/washers. no torque specs, just snug them real good. while i was in there I replaced my end links and all the sway bar bushings. I got the center bushings for the sway bar from energy suspension, they have grease zurts too so you don't have to remove the bushings when you want to grease them. NO SQUEAKS! good luck!
