Message: I have a 87 Dakota 3.9 4WD and the display is messed up. THe speedo wiggles back and forth about 15 mph under and over the acually speed, the oil pressure gauge doesnt work, it just goes allthe way up then all the way down, and keeps doing it. As far as im aware, all the other gauges work (havent got to drive it alot yet, still got to get her inspected.)
Message: speedo needle jumping is due to the speedo cable... if you remove your instrument cluster you can pull the cable insert out and grease it with white silicon lube and slide it back in and should fix the problem pending how long its been doing that it might just flat out need a whole new cable assem.... the oil pressure guage could be due to a bad sending unit or bad guage most like the sending unit is bad...
