Subject: What Cleaner for TB
IP: Logged

Message:
I am going to get a TB from a wrecking yard,I'm sure I will need to clean it. What would be the best cleaner that won't screw up the sensors. Also is there any porting I can do myself to improve performance.

There are spray TB cleaners available which are tolulene. This is a V8 TB you are looking for? In which case, you really shouldn't port it or the bores will be too big. I just bought the TB itself, and used the sensors on my truck. I sprayed the bores thoroughly with the tolulene, and used a lint free cloth to polish them.

I personally use either 3M Throttle Body Cleaner or Berrymans Carb/TB Cleaner. You can mildly modify the throttle body by cutting down the "stone-henge" blocks (front/rear/sides) to 1/4" height, removing the airhorns, and putting a 45 degree radius around the bores. Nothing else is really required. (Polishing the bores hasn't shown any gains...but it sure looks nice!)

Bernd - here's a question, hopefully not a dumb one. Does cutting down the air horns reduce noise? My truck is considerably noisier when I step on the gas, than Tibor's who has one of your ported and polished TBs.

I have the Flowmetrics and if i just spray the TB cleaner in there it causes it to stick open causing wild revving. I spray it wipe it clean and then lubricate the pivots and locations where the blades contact the bores with Millitec. Never a problem with this procedure
