Ok, on my 99 dakota 3.9 4X2 the idle is a little weird. It shakes a little bit when stopped but nothing drastic, (similar to a 4 banger with over a 100K) But when i hold the accelerator for example at 1500rpm and try to keep it steady, the idle tach. surges down and comes back up even though im holding the pedal down. Anyone have any idea? Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

If your Battery is old. Have it checked out. A bad cell will cause poor idle, surges and such.

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Hose or intake.

When's the last time you cleaned the Throttle body/A.I.S. motor? How is it on the road? does it stumble when you let off the gas to coast to a stop/ toll? try cleaning the TB and AIS then go from there. It's only a can of carb cleaner and some time. its he first thing id star with good luck

there's one place that very hidden that can be a vacuum leak if the V6 intake is designed like the V8 intake.... on the bottum side of the intake theres a access plate that gasket is very know for causeing people to just replace intake gaskets do to idle surging cause they replaced IAC and cleaned throttle plates and that not fixing it so they thought well its gotta be intake.... and that doesnt fix it so their pulling intake back of and finding that plate has a blown gasket.... happen to guy at my job... he did all the checks and everything pointed to a bad intake gasket... replaced it still had the same problem... come to find he pulled the intake back off looked at the plate that he didnt know was there and it had a bad gasket.... so that could be your problem...
