I have a 99 3.9 liter dakota. If I run regular unleaded gas pings really bad under load or accelerating. Runs really good and lots of power when cold. As soon as the temperature hits normal operating range, starts to ping or rattle on the valves? If I run supreme gas or put in octane booster, runs o.k. I had this same problem when I first bought it and the dealer reprogrammed the PCM...not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. As far as for what I've tried to fix the problem: changed cap, rotor, plugs, wires; Ran a bottle of injector cleaner; and had the diagnostics checked even though the check engine light is not on and came up clean. Any suggestions would be a great help and hopefully save me some $$$$.

thanks

1 range colder on the spark plugs will help a bit

if you live in a warmer area 180 thermostat

check both IAT and engine temp sensor

o2 bad running lean

vac leak

low fuel pressure

any of these will cause it to ping

iat = Incoming Air Temp, sensor. located on the manifold on the passenger side just behind the thermostat housing. Should be a two wire gray plug.
