Greg, there are no cheap ways to gain horsepower. Of all the ways, installing a larger engine is the cheapest. Horsepower comes at a cost of $30-50 per hp. If you want to add 100hp then plan on spending $3000-5000.

yeah!

I just spent $3500 and only gained roughly 50 hp...
but that came with about 80 ft. lbs. of torque.

but these are just guesstimates. i really dont know
how much power my 3.9 will be putting out.
is there a way to calculate how much power your
engine is producing other then a dyno that records
your horsepower/torque at the wheels?

There are some software dyno simulators out there. They start with the base engine and then take a bunch of what if's and calculate the end result. You can change variables such as cam specs, compression ratio, intake flow, etc.

well...my pops and i attempted to remove the spider
gears but we couldnt even accomplish that, you
need special tools to take out the pin and stuff,
so we just had it done, it was quite expensive

i think somehwhere in the neighborhood of $500+

but i LOVE it..

and no im sorry i dont know of any sites that have
instructions for this install.

Here's a couple of novel ideas for information. Buy a book or stop at the local library and borrow one. I've bought a manual for just about every car and truck I have ever owned. When I've needed detail wiring diagrams I've found them at the library. Some you can't check out but then all you have to do is copy the pages. I haven't done that in a long time so they may have newer sources. Some libraries may even have All Data access where everyone could view it. If they don't, it would sure be worth suggesting it to them.

8.25 upto 95 27 spline
96 and up 29 spline

how ever depending on maunfacture date and plant
late 95 may have 29 and early 96 may have 27
have ran into this twice

replace the axle seals when you do this they bolt
right in you do not have to remove the carrier to
instal and they work very well around $400

no special tools needed the spiders, axle gears
and pin are not reused it comes with the unit
and a new pin no spiders used

A Gtech will give you an estimate of reae wheel horsepower. I have a 1996 extended cab v6 auto 3.9, F&B 48mm, Gibson Headers, custom cam grind, ported heads, heads have been decked about .040" 1600 rpm stall convertor, jet chip, ported intake manifold shortened runners, Crane ignition, crank under drive pulley, high flow cat, flowmaster 50 muffer. K&N 14in open air cleaner and filter, standard splitfire plugs gapped out to .055", cps mod., 3.91 gears, 180 degree thermostat, proform electric fan for a mustang. Basically all the bolt-on items plus a few extra. I'm lucky I have an uncle that has his own shop and I can go help him out after tech school and he helps me out my mods in exchange for my labor in the shop. I get to document my experience as work credit. A friend of my has a Gtech and some software on his Laptop that connects to the OBD2 port to measure performance. The Gtech and the dyno software came out real close. The Gtech; 207 rwhp, the dyno software 211 rwhp. I finally got the truck into a shop and it dyno'ed at 205hp the best of 3 runs. All dyno runs over 200 hp.

I have found the Gtechs to be acurate to within
10 to 15hp from a chasie dyno

You can bring a stock internal motor upto 200 hp
at the wheels 190 200

Behond that internal mods

Fed once you get yours all done with the cam and
9.8 pistons you should have 230+ at the wheels

Don the cam is what put you over 200

my 95 with the port work all bolt ons and mods
with the 3.55 best dyno 191 most 186 189 wheel

with the 3.91 which are also sitting in my garage
would probably put this truck at 200+

stroker motor 1 with 3.91 267/305 14.4 1/4 mile
stroker motor 2 with 4.10 309/322 13.2 1/4 mile
rear wheel HP

Fed,

Here is a link to the F and B site where I got my throttlebody:

http://www.fbthrottlebodies.com/

It was 380.00 plus shipping. It's more than I wanted to spend, but if you want the best out there go with a F and B. A modded v8 throttle body from a 92 to 95 Dakota will work nearly as well as the F and B for alot less.

I have a 1993 Dodge Dakota that I recently had overhauled, I had a short block builtup. It was bored .030" over new pistons, I provided a Hughes Cam to have installed. I ported my own heads, had a 5 angle valve job and mopar performance springs and retainer to go with the cam. While the engine was apart I ported the intake manifold and shortened the runners to 12 inches and opened the top of the manifold to take a 50mm throttle body. The stock exhaust manifolds have been ported toremove any ruff sports and ceramic coated and installed with gaskets. I am running an MSD igntion, blaster coil, Taylor wires, glad to see others on this site are using the NGK V power plugs gapped at .052". I run a 50mm fastman Throttle body with the 14in K&N air cleaner with the extreme top. I am running a High flow high flow cat and Flow Master 50 muffler all 3 inch. My transmision has been rebuilt with a performance tranny rebuild kit with kevlar clutches and bands. I running a 2000 stall torque convertor and Mopar performance pcm. I love this truck and the way it runs. I have the latest Gtech Pro RR and it has consistently come very close to the dyno readings I have had. The best of the dyno runs 221 rwhp. The Gtech best run 225 rwhp. My truck weighs 3500 lbs and runs the 1/4 mile at 93 mph.
