unless you want to go racing and build the motor accordingly, leave the limiter where it is.

there is a reason the factory set that rev limiter. you really don't want to rev an all stock motor higher than the factory rev limiter.

there has been some debate on here about this very thing. some say it's worth it on a stock motor some say not. i have no experience with the MSD.

my choice on a stock motor would be a higher voltage, stock-type coil, such as the Blaster with a cap & rotor with brass contacts, good 8mm wires and a good spark plug.

i use Bosch reg platinum plugs, 1 range colder than stock. they stopped a pinging issue i had. and a Borg Warner cap & rotor. need to change my wires but haven't done it yet.

this works for me but others have different opinions. maybe someone else will comment or you can search the site through GOOGLE.

Is that why the factory also set that speed limiter?

These engine got along very well for many years without rev limiters or speed limiters. However, like idiot lights they do serve a purpose for the majority of people, most of whom should never look under the hood.

The msd will not change the rev limiter its
controled by the computer and set at 4800rpm

the 6a box just interupts the coil signal and
makes it a multi strike system

idle to around 2000rpm 3 times upto 2800rpm
2 times at 3000 1 high intesity spark

To take advatage of the hotter spark the plug
gap will need to be opened up

with the box and msd coil .050 to .060 the
autolite AP3923 plat tip ngk fr4 or 5

yes you will notice better off idle throttle
response smother idle but be sure you have good
wires like the taylor 8mm or msd 8.5mm

about 5hp on a stock motor you will also have to
replace the cap and rotor every 7 to 8000 miles
the multi strike eats caps fast

the reg 6a not the odd fire unit they work well
on the mag motors

or somethin

same with the speedometer..

I am runnning the MSD6A on 2 Dodge Dakotas. 1992 with the 5.2 liter v8 and a 1997 3.9 v6 with after market blaster coils and superconductor wires. Both trucks run very well with the MSD 6a system.

92 and 97 Daks both with many mods.

8207 SS Blaster coil is around $50

I would not worrie about the tach being off it
does not effect anything

my tach reads sometimes 700 at idle smetimes 500
my speedo is also off by 2mph 60 = 58 but the
scanner reads the right speed just the way it is

most of the factory production guages not just
dodge but all are not known for there accuracy
so don't let it bother you not worth doing any
thing about it you may get a new one and it would
probable be off too

The only failure of any msd I have seen was my
own a 8207 coil died btu I susspect it was from
the time I went threw the car wash afterwards it
was missing for about 10 min about 3 weeks later
it died truck would not start

the stock coil will also run with the 6a box its
a good system

I just recently put an MSD 6A Ignition, MSD Blaster Coil 2, and some 8.5mm Super Conductor wires on my 1991 3.9L Dakota, I was quite pleased with the performance gains I achieved from the change thou I was hoping it would remove the pesky rev limiter but as it picks its timing up from stock PCM it didnt get rid of it. All in all i think it was 300$ well spent for the improved power and slightly better mpg. and also a big factor in upping your engines reving capabilities is your valve springs they need to be really stiff or your valves will float at high rpm and you start raining parts, but basicly valve springs and balanced internals will probably let your rev pretty high, if you get rid of that limiter.

I finaly got around to putting my 6a box back on

I am using an old round oil filed coil from a
1977 400 lean burn system and the halo plugs
that are perm gaped at .045

can tell the diff it makes and after 50 miles
it tweaked in very nice if you ever notice how
these motors pick up around 3000rpm with the
msd its around 2500rpm and it redlines a lot
faster

worth the money oh ya

the only thing about these systems is you have to
take the time and play with the plugs both gap
and heat range to see what runs best for you
every motor is a little diff

my 267/305 stroker motor would ping with the stock
range halo's ran perfict with the AP3923 gaped
at .060

the 309/322 stroker did not run good with the
AP3923 but runs excellent with the 1 range
colder halo gap .045 and the msd

take the time to find what works best for you
and you can run the stock coil with the msd box

keep an eye on your cap they do get wasted fast
with the multi spark discharge 7 to 10,000 they
are toast
