I love my 01 3.9 L 4x4 Dakota. It's the first vehicle I purchased new and now, 4 months later, I couldn't have made a better choice. Let's face it...the R/T could probably hand it to us, but when it comes to racing, we'll smoke just about every truck made. Even the 4.7 Liter Dakotas can eat our dust -- with around 800 more pounds on their wheels, the rears don't have the power to push their trucks as fast as ours do.
Ok...back to the whole "Ram" thing...I heard the '02 Rams are coming with 3.7's in them. That sounds pretty weak to me. I also heard claims of the 3.7 pushing out 212 HP's as opposed to the 3.9's 175. Now, let's say that's true, where does horsepower really get us? True, 400 hp as opposed to 150 is going to get the 400 somewhere, but everyone knows that torque is king when it comes to acceleration.
Oh well, just thought I'd throw that out there -- don't know much about playing number games, that's just what seemed logical to me -- looking for your thoughts.

Yeah the 3.7 makes 212 HP but it makes it at higher rpm, where as the 3.9 makes it at lower rpm.. Same with the torque...I'm sure it's a good motor.. but I would rather drive a bigger engine.

The 3.7 has a higher redline than the 3.9, but if you look at the details of the curve, they mimic each other along the HP range. HOWEVER reports on the Liberty (the first vehicle to get the engine) are that it's a dog. apparently the tranny can't handle that power correctly, but to the untrained driver, it has tremendous power.
i drove the Liberty the other day and it has power, and it sounds good, but i know my truck can beat it.

I have driven the liberty and it is a dog down low, below 3000. It seems pretty bad if you drive it like a 3.9, lower in the rpm. I like the power out put of the 3.9 better than the 3.7. It feels like you are wringing the guts out of it to get good power and throttle response is down as well compared to the 3.9. But I think the guys who like the 5 speeds will like the 3.7 for its ability to rev better than the 3.9 and belive me you have to rev it.

i was wondering if someone can help???
i bought a chip for my lil 3.9l i do a lot of towing with the truck i need all the power i can get "wheres the dang air intake sensor" lol i have a k&n now it helped a lil but this truck is weak only ran 12.0's in the 1/8 but i put 31x10.5's on the truck i want more power and touque please help
