Ported & polished=ok, V8=better,
fastman TB=Even better, F&B= best
I have a hand ported & polished Tb you can have cheap=$20. You can find V8 TB's on ebay 40+ dollars, more than likely you'll need to switch Tb cables to a V8 cable. the differance is at the Tb end the V8's have a disk-type stud. V6's have a ball-stud. New V8 cable from a dealer should run about $30. Fastman Tb's run in the $250 range, F&B's are (I think) in the $325 price range.

If you can grab a ported and polished v6 tb for $20 then grab it. I doubt there is any quality to the workmanship or it wouldn't go for that price.

You won't gain a single thing by going to a v8 tb. F&B is pretty, pretty expensive and little or no gain over a nicely ported v6 tb. There's a very good reason they don't recommend the v8 version for anything other than a "Modified 3.9L V6." The modification includes modifying the intake manifold in order to get the rated flow.

The cheapest route to go is the v8 tb. For possibly just slightly better flow get a nicely ported v6 tb. The fastman may be just slightly better if the throttle shaft is thinned. I'm not sure about the details.
